 Prometheus is the other classic "wound in side"
 reference; he can be seen as a prefiguration of
 Christ, in that he sacrifices himself for the
 benfit of mankind.

 Prometheus is non-human (he is a Titan), and the
 benfit is physical and ambigious, rather than
 spiritual and unmixed, so there are differences.
 Not having read the story at issue, I can't guess
 which makes more sense.
