There is a good essay on this and a couple of other Wolfe stories in "New York Review of Science Fiction No. 95" (alga ought to have a contributor's copy of this issue). Locey incorporates and responds to the Gordon interpretation: for one thing, she claims that the sixth day is Good Friday rather than Easter; and that by counting back from here we see Nadan arriving in the foreign city on Palm Sunday; that there is no "missing day"; etc. There's also a lot of info on the real theatrical plays involved; and how the real plays differ from those presented in the story. Neat stuff. =mantis=
