Subject: (urth) 7 early stories
Adam Stephanides asked about some stories. I'll quote Joan Gordon by way
of reply, adding a little:
>Mountains Like Mice
"Wolfe's first published science-fiction story, this is an initiation story
showing his characteristic interest in myth."
Hmmm. It has something of the feel of "`A Story' by John V. Marsch." It
is set on a terraformed Mars, iirc.
>Screen Test
"A non-science-fiction mystery story based on false assumptions."
It is a Chinese screen. Art object, not motion-picture initiation.
>Volksweapon
"A straight mystery story"
A lake in the woods. Rape, murder, guns. And a Volkswagon, of course.
>The Green Wall Said
"Crossed communications and the value of humanity."
Hmmm. A "Hollywood bowl" type dingus writes out a message from the stars,
fragment by fragment.
>It's Very Clean
"Who is real and who is not, in the sexual arena."
>Thou Spark of Blood
"A spaceship murder with allusions to _Macbeth_."
>King under the Mountain.
"A personal relationship between a man and a computer."
The computer is deep underground.
