There's more variation among Christians than you might think, especially
among the bad 'uns that read a lot of old books. Whether you call them
"variations" or "heresies" depends on when/where you live.
I think Wolfe believes in a Satan. I just chose not to take it for granted.

I was thinking more in terms of the original Hebrew concept of Satan than
Jung directly, but Jung isn't too bad a fit (I believe he studied qabbala
among other things). The concept of Satan (and the angels, in general) has
been bent and reworked quite a bit to get to the devil-figure most people
automatically think of today - but that's getting into a long digression.
Catholics, especially free-thinking ones, aren't necessarily going to think
of it the same simplistic way as your average fundamentalist.
