Which brings me to a bizarre question, but not irrelevant:   Could 
Baldanders be Abaia?  This is not as ridiculous as it first seems.  
Under the tutelage of the Undines it is possible he could gain access 
to the corridors of time and he is growing unchecked.  In addition, the 
Naviscaput in the Wonders of Earth and Sky is a big oily mechanical 
device, very Baldanders-esq.
