I always assumed calde was derived from the word alcalde which is "the chief administrative and judicial officer of a Spanish town". The word itself is derived from the Arabic work Al-qudl which means judge.(all this according to the wonderful people at the Merriam-Webster dictionary). ciao "and it had cottened on to him from the beginning, seeing in him a man in ruins, to be sure, yet a salvageable man and one well worth saving." from 'Flash Company' by Gene Wolfe ------------------------------------------------------------ 365gay.com Mail - Powered by BigMailBox.com - http://www.bigmailbox.com *This is WHORL, for discussion of Gene Wolfe's Book of the Long Sun. *More Wolfe info & archive of this list at http://www.moonmilk.com/whorl/ *To leave the list, send "unsubscribe" to whorl-request@lists.best.com *If it's Wolfe but not Long Sun, please use the URTH list: urth@lists.best.com
