(Hitler created the death camps, but God, let's say, created Hitler, and invented pain and suffering to boot.) Fortunately (IMHO) this is not the case in the "real" world. But in Wolfe's pocket universes (Briah, Yesod, etc.) it is the case. Wolfe has explicitly told us that TBOTNS is an extended meditation on the ways in which his God shapes Creation through pain and suffering. If you believe us to live in that sort of universe, then your quarrel is with God, among others. But if you do not, then your quarrel is with Wolfe himself.
